Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, the American actor and filmmaker, was born on 9th July 1956, at California, U.S. He is the son of Janet Marylyn, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook. He attended the Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland as an intern, which later got stretched into a three-year experience.
His film debut was in the film He Knows You’re Alone (1980), and later did several television series. His first hit movie was the romantic comedy film Splash (1984), which was a surprise box office hit. He earned two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for starring in Philadelphia (1993), and in Forrest Gump (1994). He did movies like Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Post (2017) in collaboration with film director Steven Spielberg.
His other notable films include Sleepless in Seattle, Apollo 13, Cast Away, Captain Phillips, Sully, and A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. He has given voice Sheriff Woody in the Toy Story film series. He has received two Academy Awards out of six nominations.
