She is the daughter of Canadian film, television and stage actor Ted Follows and actress Dawn Greenhalgh. She is the sister of Edwina Follows, Samantha Follows, and Laurence Follows. She is recognised for her character of Anne Shirley in the 1985 Canadian television miniseries Anne of Green Gables and its two follow-ups. This brought her Gemini Award for Best Performance by a Lead Actress in a Single Dramatic Program or Miniseries. She was also a part of television series Reign as Catherine de' Medici from the year 2013 to 2017.
