Gillian Leigh Anderson, the American-British actress was born on 9th August 1968, in Illinois, U.S. She is the daughter of Rosemary “Posie” Alyce, a computer analyst and Homer Edward “Ed” Anderson III, owner of a film post-production company. She got interested in theatre in her teenage years and later graduated in Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago.
Anderson did her first film The Turning in the year 1992, and made guest appearances in a number of television series, which lead her to the role of Special Agent Scully in The X-Files. Her film work includes The Last King of Scotland (2006), Shadow Dancer (2012), and two X-Files films.
She received several awards for her works including BAFTA Awards nominations, Golden Globe and Emmy Awards.

Later in 1997, they got separated. She married the documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne in December 2004, but they got divorced in April 2006.
She was in a relationship with businessman Mark Griffiths, with whom she has two sons, Oscar and Felix. The couple ended their relationship in the year 2012. Anderson identifies herself as heterosexual, and has talked about her relationship with women in an interview in 2012.
