She is the daughter of lawyer Russell Langdon Brenneman, Jr and judge Frederica Joanne Shoanfield. She got well known for her role of Detective Janice Licalsi in the ABC police drama series NYPD Blue from 1993 to 1994. This brought her nomination for two Primetime Emmy Awards.
