Olivia Newton-John




Olivia is a popular singer, songwriter and actress touted as one of the world's best selling astists of all time. A four-time Grammy Award winner, Olivia has several songs under the Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 Singles and Billboard 200 Solo-albums. Her singles have been certified as gold by RIAA and she has sold almost 100 million records worldwide. Her first solo album was If Not For You after that she has never looked back. Her first international hit was the album All Things Must Pass whose songs were written by Bob Dylan. Olivia has also been part of Cliff Richard's weekly show. She was named Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the year in 1974. Her career reached new heights when she played the lead in the Broadway musical adaptation 'Grease' that turned out to be the biggest box-office hit of 1978. After the birth of her daughter, she resumed her career with albums like The Rumour, Warm and Tender and Back to Basics.

Newton-John was born in Cambridge, England. Her maternal grandfather was a Jew who has escaped Germany against the Nazi regime. Their family emigrated to Australia in 1954. Its quite clear that she is Jewish by faith.

Olivia is an advocate for breast cancer and other health issues and is involved in many humanitarian causes. She even protested the slaughter of dolphins in tuna-fishing nets by cancelling her tour to Japan. Olivia has even remained the Goodwill Ambassador of United Nations Environment Programme. In 1991 she became the National Spokesperson of Colleta Chuda Environment Fund. Her albums have benefitted many charities too. In 2008 she established the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne by raising funds. Olivia was even the President of Isle of Man Basking Shark Society.

She dated Ion Turpie, her co-star in the Australian telefim, Funny Things Happen Down Under. She was however married to Matt Lattanzi and has a daughter Chloe. In 2008, she re-married John Easterling.

A prolific singer of international fame and regard, Olivia is known to work for charities and environmental organizations passionately. Her album Gaia: One Woman's Journey chronicled her journey of struggle against her diagnosis. Olivia once led a 228 km walk at the Great Wall of China, joined by many celebrities and cancer survivors.

She represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Long Live Love'.

Her father was an MI5 officer.

Olivia won the talent contest on the television show Sing Sing Sing.

She herself underwent surgery for breast cancer in 1991.

She has featured in UniGlobe Entertainment's Breast Cancer docu-drama 1 a Minute.

Once chosen by People Magazine as one of 50 Most Beautiful People and ranked among VH1's 100 Sexiest Artist.

She has recently revealed that her breast cancer has returned.
