Sam Esmail, creator of the 2015 television series, ‘Mr Robot’ came into this world on September 17, 1977, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He is a screenwriter, film and television director and a producer. He attended New York University and then graduated from that college’s Tisch School of the Arts. He then went ahead and took up a Master of Fine Arts degree from the American Film Institute Conservatory. As mentioned earlier, he created the television series, ‘Mr Robot’ and was even in charge of the production and writing of the script. The show was cast on the channel ‘USA network’.
Sam Esmail Religion:
Even though Esmail is American by nationality, he was born
in an Egyptian family and is muslim by birth. His family moved to South
Carolina when he was a little child. Due to their Middle Eastern roots, Esmail
and his family often had to face criticism from people. In the recently held
Golden Globe awards, Esmail thanked his family in his native language by saying
‘shukran’, which might prove otherwise.
Sam Esmail Political Views:
We know little about Esmail’s view on politics. However, he
does believe politics to have influenced his writing in one way or another. As
an immigrant from an Arab country, Esmail is known to have ‘broken down the
stereotypes’ by replacing them with Arab Americans and Arab Muslims. He
recently retweeted Cody Keenan’s post on twitter saying that ‘our president’,
Donald Trump, is having a cynical morning and how he imagined for more hopeful
days to prevail in politics.
Who is he dating?:
In the September of
2014, Esmail entered into a relationship with American actress, director and
singer songwriter, Emily Rossum. They got engaged to each other on September 1,
2015. Rossum and Esmail are an interfaith couple, of which Rossum is of jewish faith.
They got married on 28 May in a Reform Synagogue in New York City and have been
together ever since.
Sam Esmail Hobbies
Esmail has a keen interest for computers. He got his first
computer when he was 9 and soon began developing his own code. When he attended
New York University he would be engrossed in his work in the computer lab and
was even sent on academic probation once for an incident that occurred there
due to his doing. He is a passionate writer and often empathizes with the
characters that he writes about.
Interesting Facts
In 2008, Esmail started work on his first feature film
screenplay, ‘Sequels, Remakes and
Adaptations.’ Despite it being his first film, it was selected on the ‘Black List’ which is an annual survey of
as many as 600 production companies and film executives of the ‘most liked’
motion pictures and screenplays that had not yet been produced. To be selected
by such a forum for his first film, would indeed have been a great achievement
for him. Apart from this in 2014, his directorial debut, Comet was released by IFC.
